Making a real difference

By understanding the goals of the people we support and working together in partnership, great outcomes are possible.

The right support

Jarrod knows first-hand the difference the right support can make to living a fulfilling life following a traumatic accident.

Without Vista support, Jarrod believes he would be in a nursing home. Instead he is living independently, running his own web design business and advocating safe driving to young people getting their licences. He has even featured in a TAC television advertisement about the risks of dangerous driving.

So what makes the difference? For Jarrod, it’s having a support worker who respects how he wants to live his life, helps him achieve his goals, is willing to listen and has a sense of humour!

A rewarding career

As Jarrod’s support worker for two years, Veronica believes the most rewarding part has been making a difference for Jarrod and seeing him speak about his experience to educate other young people. Through providing him with daily support and assistance with physiotherapy, Veronica was able to play a significant role in his recovery and enabled Jarrod to maintain his lifestyle in the way that suited him.

Since working with Vista, Veronica has had the opportunity to develop her career and achieve her own goals in a rewarding, inspiring and challenging industry. Now a Senior Team Leader, Veronica says, “Knowing that at the end of the day I have helped make a difference in somebody’s life is very rewarding.”
